For a brief introduction of story, this is Yumi's romance chronicle along with her cells.
In this webtoon, the main character Yumi's emotins, impulses, and activities in the body are personified with cells to portray what is happening inside Yumi's mind.
For instance, Yumi's hunger cell hinders Yumi from succeeding her diet, especially when she is going through melancholy and stressful days. In the first episode, hunger cell demonstrates its overwhelming power by its big physique, which can easilty stomp on other cells. This indicates how big Yumi's passion for delicious food is.
<Main character>
Yumi: Yumi, the rather timid and tender main character, desire to achieve her dream, but compromises on reality. Although she wants to love again, easily gives up, reminding the wounds she had previously received. Yumi is a character who is lonely but does not want to reveal her weakness, caring about the eyes of others.
<Yumi's Cells> describes the process in which Yumi, who was hesitant due to such worries and mourning, begins a new romance and grows up with happiness and enlightenment through the relationship. 1. Cut-toon format
Cut-toon is a serial method of web-toon, optimized on mobile. Unlike the usual webtoon method, which requires a long scroll of the screen in the vertical direction, in the cut-toon format, each cut that fills the screen pops out as you touch or swipe the cell phone screen. And by enabling system to post comments on each cut, it helps readers to enjoy web-toon more delicately and share their opinions. In particular, when there is a cut with a twist, you can easily see that the number of comments on certain cut explodes, and find readers enjoying web-toon in more depth by reading other people's expressions and sympathizing on it.
However, as there are many comment windows for each cut, there is a disadvantage of being vulnerable to spoiler comments. Therefore, if you are new to this webtoon, it would be better not to read the comments at first, but to feel and understand the work as you think, and then check various interpretations and opinions of the readers in the best comments.
You can empathize with the emotions what a woman in her 30s must have gone through in her daily life. Even if you are not a woman in her 30s, you would still see the emotions that a human should have experienced and expressed of.
As such, the arthor's ability to describe delicate emotions is excellent enough to draw sympathy from various age groups and genders. Even though the writer is a man :)
In particular, the main character Yumi is an ordinary character who is neither flashy nor outstanding like the main character in an ordinary drama. However, it's even more special,as people can find similarities from Yumi, making readers root for Yumi's growth and emotions.
3. Healing
What readers gain from reading Yumi's cells will not only be mere empathy. By watching Yumi's cells operate, readers look back on their feelings. Sometimes, when I read Yumi's cell, I realize my feelings that I didn't even know, thinking "So this is why I felt those feelings and acted like that." and be a good opportunity for to look back on myself, which have long been turned outside to meet other people's expectations.
Also, by imagining that there exists cells inside me that help me grow, work hard for me, and love me like Yumi's cells, I feel reassured just by thinking that there is a medium that reads, sympathizes, and understands my thoughts. It feels like I'm not the only one who gets through everything and to have a strong ally.
These must have been one of the factors that made Yumi's cells very popular by providing mental theraphy to modern people who are tired of life
In the webtoon, Yumi constantly moves forward in many ways. She makes up for deficiencies in herself and becomes 'authetic adult' as she mature. Yumi finds her own color, and becomes a complete herself, and the process was portrayed sometimes seriously and sometimes witty. A painful experience can also be a nourishment that greatly contributes to the growth of a person's magnanimity.
